The atomic bomb was dropped on the cities of Japan on 6, August 1945 and 9, August 1945. America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. The American bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima (August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945) marked the first use of nuclear weapons in the war. On August 10, a day after the bombing of Nagasaki, the Japanese government issued a statement agreeing to accept the Allied surrender terms set out in the Potsdam Declaration. By 1945, the bombing had killed about 140,000 and 74,000 people in Japan.
