Detailed Solution

The Corn Laws were repealed in 1846. The law was introduced in Britain in 1804 to protect domestic farmers from foreign competition. It imposed heavy duties on foreign products, including corn, since agriculturists were unable to compete with the imports. But this imposition of import duties made corn costly. Industrialists and urban dwellers were unhappy with the rise in prices. Hence the government had to finally repeal the law.
