Detailed Solution

Indian states were reorganised in 1956. With the formation of Andhra as a state, Other language groups also pressed for the establishment of their independent states. It was decided to create separate provinces for speakers of Assamese, Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. A States Reorganisation Commission was established, and its report was published in 1956. North India's substantial Hindi-speaking territory was also supposed to be divided into numerous states. The bilingual state of Bombay was split into separate Marathi, and Gujarati-speaking states a short time later, in 1960. The state of Punjab was split in 1966 into two separate states, Punjab and Haryana.
