Detailed Solution

The National Archives were established in India by the British in 1920. They believed that carefully preserving records and messages was crucial. They thus established record rooms that were connected to all administrative entities. There were record rooms in institutions like the law courts, the collectorate, the commissioner's office, the provincial secretariats, and the local tahsildar's office. Organisations like archives and museums were set up to preserve these significant materials. To do this, the National Archives of India was established in New Delhi in the 1920s. You may still read letters and memos from the first half of the 19th century. The Viceregal Palace is close to the National Archives. For the British, these institutions were crucial.
