Detailed Solution

When a work is done on a body it gains energy.
Work is defined as “the energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement.” When work is involved, transfer of energy takes place. An object that possesses energy can apply a force on another body, which in turn transfers the energy from the former to the latter. When work is done on a body, the body gains energy whereas the one doing work loses energy.
A person pedalling a cycle, for example, does work and loses energy while the cycle gains kinetic energy.
