When you rub a glass rod with silk, the glass rod acquires a positive charge.
Silk is rubbed on a glass rod, and as a result of the charge caused by the rubbing, both become electrified. Due to the movement of electrons from one body to another, one body obtains a negative charge and the other a positive charge. Since silk is more capable of drawing electrons than glass, it has a higher electron affinity. Silk therefore picks up a tiny bit of negative charge, whereas glass picks up a tiny bit of positive charge.
