The first Satyagraha of Gandhiji in India was the Champaran Satyagraha of Bihar in 1917.
Through the Champaran Satyagraha, Gandhiji entered Indian politics. The Satyagraha was against the Tinkathia system. After getting aware of the situation in Champaran, Gandhi went there to listen to both sides. He then redressed the grievances of the cultivators oppressed by the indigo planters. The cultivator's condition was very miserable because the farmers were protesting against having to grow indigo with barely any payment for it. Many tenant farmers were forced to produce some indigo for a portion of their tenancy. Hence Gandhiji inspired the peasants to revolt against the oppressive system in Champaran.
