Detailed Solution

Kiwi fruit originally comes from China.

It first grew wild in the forests of China and was called the Chinese gooseberry because of its taste and size. For many centuries, people in China enjoyed this small, brown, and fuzzy fruit.

In the early 1900s, kiwi seeds were taken to New Zealand. Farmers there started growing it on a large scale. Because the fruit grew very well in New Zealand’s climate, it became very popular. The name was later changed to “kiwi” after New Zealand’s national bird, the kiwi bird, which is also small, brown, and fuzzy like the fruit.

Today, kiwi fruit is grown in many countries like:

  • New Zealand
  • Italy
  • Chile
  • Greece
  • USA (California)

But its true origin is from China, and that’s where kiwi fruit first came from.
