Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi violated the Salt Law at Dandi, Gujarat. Gandhi saw salt as a symbol that could help in uniting the nation. On January 31, 1930, a letter stating eleven demands was sent to Viceroy Irwin by Gandhi. However, Viceroy Irwin took the note lightly, so Gandhi began his famous Salt March on March 11, 1930, from his ashram in Sabarmati, Gujarat. The March began with only 78 followers, but by the end, thousands of followers supporting Gandhi in the cause had participated in breaking the Salt Law.
