Detailed Solution

Natesa Sastri published a massive four-volume collection of Tamil folk tales in Madras. The revival of Indian folklore also gave rise to nationalistic ideas. Nationalists in India started documenting folk tales recited by bards in the late nineteenth century, and they travelled to villages to collect folk songs and legends. They thought that these stories accurately depicted traditional society before it was harmed and distorted by outside influences. Rabindranath Tagore personally spearheaded the folk revival movement in Bengal and started compiling ballads, nursery rhymes, and stories. The Folklore of Southern India, a vast four-volume collection of Tamil folktales, was published in Madras by Natesa Sastri. Folklore, in his opinion, was a form of national literature and "the most reliable depiction of people's true views and qualities."
