Detailed Solution

The factory workers of Bombay hail from Ratnagiri. In 1911, Ratnagiri, a nearby district, supplied more than half of the workforce for the Bombay cotton factories.Industries required labourers. This need increased as more factories were set up. Indian manufacturers employed 584,000 people in 1901. This number reached 2,436 000 by 1946. Most industrial areas relied on local districts for labour. Peasants and craftsmen looking for work left the hamlet and migrated to the industrial hubs. Similar to neighbouring areas, the Kanpur district's villages supplied the majority of the textile workers for the mills there. The majority of the time, millworkers commuted between the city and the village, coming home for holidays and harvests.
