The famous Dandi March began at Sabarmati ashram.
Dandi march began from Sabarmati ashram on March 12 1930, for the small village, Dandi. Gandhiji believed that resisting this unjust policy was a cause that everyone in the country could support. Accordingly, he submitted a forceful letter to Viceroy Lord Irwin on January 31, 1930, with 11 requests, including removing salt charges. When this was ignored, Gandhiji and 78 other Satyagrahis marched from the Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal town of Dandi to collect salt as a protest.
