Detailed Solution

The historic protests against the Rowlatt Act were held at the Jallianwala Bagh.
On April 13, 1919, a large group of peasants travelled to Amritsar to attend the Baisakhi fair and others to protest the Rowlatt Act gathered in the Jallianwala Bagh's enclosed space. Since they were outside the city, they were unaware that martial law had been enacted. Nevertheless, General Dyer closed off the only exit and started shooting into the gathering, leaving hundreds of people dead or injured. His goal was to "produce a moral effect" to instil fear in the minds of the Satyagrahis. As the news spread, protests, police encounters, and assaults on public structures occurred. But the government reacted by imposing harsh repression.
