Detailed Solution

Bengal saw the Indigo Rebellion (also known as Neel Bidroho), which was an uprising by farmers against British planters who had made them grow indigo under conditions that were very unfavourable to them. Bengal began cultivating indigo in 1777. The demand for indigo was great everywhere. Thousands of ryots (peasants) in Bengal refused to grow indigo for the European planters during the summer of 1859. (owners of land and indigo factories). It was an act of wrath and unwavering determination. One of the most notable peasant revolutions in Indian history was born out of it. Up until around 1900, indigo, a significant and pricey vat dyestuff, was only produced by plants belonging to the genera Indigofera and Isatis.
