The Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred at Amritsar. On April 13, the infamous Jallianwalla Bagh incident took place. A large crowd gathered in Jallianwala Bagh. Some came to attend the meeting and others attended the Baisakhi Festival. Most residents from out of town were unaware of the military rules imposed. Dyer entered the area, blocked exits, and opened fire on the crowd, killing hundreds. He aimed "produce a moral result," to create in the minds of satyagrahis a sense of dread and fear. As the news of Jallianwalla Bagh spread, crowds flooded the streets of many northern Indian cities.
