Detailed Solution

The rebellion of the indigo planters began in 1917 at Champaran.
Due to the oppressive measures of the colonial government, the indigo planters started a revolt in Champaran in 1917. It was the very first mass development begun by Mahatma Gandhi. This movement was based on truth and peacefulness, known as Satyagraha. Mahatma Gandhi believed that one could win the fight even by being peaceful and non-violent. Therefore, he travelled to Champaran to persuade the workers to fight against the harsh plantation system. The primary motivation behind this movement was to help the peasants rebel against the Britishers because they were forced to grow indigo.
