The sepoy mutiny started in Meerut. The next day all the sepoys went to Delhi and proclaimed a huge revolt against colonial rule. Sepoys were not happy with the colonial rule as rumours were being spread about the Enfield rifle claiming that its cartridge was coated with the fat of cows and pigs, and to operate it one has to open it from their mouth, as a result, it was very offensive to the Hindus and Muslims. This was one of the reasons for sepoy mutiny. Bahadur Shah Zafar was proclaimed as the titular head of this revolt, but many other leaders were operating this revolt from other areas like Rani Laxmi Bai, Nana Saheb, and Birjis Qadir.
