Where does Toda tribe live?

The Toda tribe lives in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, India. They are a small pastoral community traditionally known for rearing buffaloes and practicing unique dairy-based rituals.

The Todas reside in distinctive half-barrel shaped huts called “munds”, which are built of bamboo and thatched with grass. Their lifestyle is deeply connected to nature, with customs, dress, and religious practices centered around their buffalo herds and the surrounding hills.

Although modern influences have reached the Nilgiris, the Toda community continues to preserve its ancient culture, handicrafts, embroidery, and ecological traditions, making them an important part of India’s tribal heritage.
