Ajanta is located in Maharashtra. It is famous for its beautiful caves chiselled out of the hilly regions of the Western Ghats. Most of the caves of Ajanta were used as monasteries for Buddhist monks as resting and worshipping places. One can find beautiful paintings painted by unknown painters of that time. They are of different kinds as Vajrapani paintings, Padmapani paintings, etc., which have Bodhisattva as the dominant feature. The colours of these paintings were made of plants and various minerals, which can still be seen even after 1500 years.
