The town of Sabarmati is located in Gujarat.
In 1930, Gandhi set out for a civil disobedience movement by extracting salt from the seawater at the Dandi beach in Gujarat. He started the journey from Sabarmati, one of the camps settled by Gandhiji, which soon became the centre of India’s independence movement. The movement had a toll on 78 people, including Gandhi, Kasturba, Badaruddin Twayibji, and more, who disobeyed the civil law. The movement was collective and organised in several parts of India simultaneously by extracting salt from the seawater. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Sahib, Sarojini Naidu, and C. Rajagopalachari are some of those who led movements in several parts of India.
