TISCO was established in Jamshedpur in 1907. Tata Iron and Steel Industries was the first ever iron and steel industry set up in India. Jamshedji Tata and his elder son Dorabji Tata set up the first industry in Sakchi city, Chhattisgarh. Sakchi was later known as Jamshedpur, in the name of Jamshedji Tata. Dorabji Tata came to Chhattisgarh in search of Iron deposits in 1904. TISCO started producing Iron and steel in 1912.
