Bahadur shah Zafar was exiled to Rangoon. The Company enacted new regulations that made it easier for the rebels to be judged guilty,
obtained troops from England to end the 1857 revolt, and then marched into the hotspots of the uprising. In September 1857, the insurgent forces were driven from Delhi. Bahadur Shah Zafar, the final Mughal emperor, was taken into custody, tried, and given a life sentence. In October 1858, Bahadur Shah Zafar and his wife, Begum Zinat Mahal, were detained at Rangoon.
