A fusion genre of Indian folk music, specifically Bhojpuri folk music, with soca music and local Caribbean calypso and later on Bollywood music is Chutney music. Developed in Trinidad and Tobago, this genre of music is popular in Trinidad and  Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, other parts of the Caribbean, Mauritius, Fiji, and South Africa. Chutney music came into existence in the mid-20th century and the 1980s and reached its peak popularity.
