Detailed Solution

Nana Sahab lived near Kanpur when the mutiny started. He was the last Peshwa of Marathas. However, after the colonial government gained control in Maharashtra and over the Marathas, Nana Saheb was deported to Kanpur over the pension. He was living his life there, and when he heard about the revolt of 1857 that was going on against colonial rule, he thought of giving himself a chance to regain the empire of his ancestors from the hands of Britishers. Thus, he actively participated in the war and fought against British rule to regain his power as a Peshwa. He acted as the leader of Kanpur during the revolt of 1857.
