The 1929 session of Congress was held at Lahore in the context of the freedom struggle. It was presided over by Jawahar Lal Nehru. The main agenda was the degree of freedom India wanted from the colonial rulers. Earlier, the Indians had demanded a dominion status of India in the Nehru report. But the British government did not acknowledge this demand and failed to give a reply within a suitable time frame. As a result, Congress now upped their order and asked for complete independence, or “Purna Swaraj”.
