The first plant of Ford Motors, established in India, was in Chennai.
Ford Motors is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. It has its production units spread over 26 countries around the globe. Ford Motors entered India in 1995 and set up its first significant production plant in Chennai at the cost of Rs. 1700 crore.
It was then made in collaboration with Mahindra and Mahindra, a prominent Indian manufacturer of jeeps and trucks. Ford Motors was producing and selling 88000 cars in Indian Markets by 2017, while another 181000 vehicles were exported from India to South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and the US, produced in Chennai.
