The philosophy of the Bodhisattvas was most popular in China. After the development of Mahayana Buddhism, there were two main changes: the first change was the use of statues to show the presence of Buddha, and the second important change was the belief in Bodhisattvas. Bodhisattvas were persons who had attained enlightenment. After attaining enlightenment, they could live in isolation. But after the development of Mahayana Buddhism, these people remained in the world (instead of going into isolation) to teach and help other people. As a result, Bodhisattvas became very popular worldwide, especially in places like China, Central Asia, and later in Korea and Japan.
