The strike called in by the Seven Party Alliance was in Kathmandu. After all the major political parties came together to form the Seven Party Alliance(SPA), they were set to go on a four-day strike in 2005. This protest against the monarch brought together Maoist insurgents and a variety of other organisations in Nepal. In violation of the curfew, people took to the streets. Finally, when the king gave in to the protestors' demands, the SPA elected Girija Prasad Koirala as the Prime Minister of Nepal and democracy was restored.
