Which Act established the Legal Services Authorities in India?

The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, established the framework for Legal Services Authorities across India. This Act came into force on 9 November 1995. It was enacted to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of society and to ensure that justice is available to everyone, irrespective of financial background. The Act also introduced the concept of Lok Adalats, which are people’s courts that help settle disputes quickly and amicably. Through this legislation, India reinforced its constitutional promise of equal justice and fair opportunity for all citizens.
