Colloidal sulphur is the form of sulphur that is created when ${\mathrm{H}}_2\mathrm{S}$ gas is exposed to nitric acid.

 $2{\mathrm{HNO}}_3+{\mathrm{H}}_2\mathrm{S}\to \mathrm{S}+2{\mathrm{NO}}_2+2{\mathrm{H}}_2\mathrm{O}$
