Detailed Solution

Umbel and Corymb are racemose inflorescences and simple cyme is cymose type.

The special type of inflorescences are

  1. Verticellaster: It is association of usually two axillary inflorescences present at the node, Each inflorescence has sessile or sub-sessile bisexual flowers and it starts as dichasium and after the formation of first order branches, it reverts to monochasial scorpioid cymes that form false whorl around the axis. Ex: Leucas, Leonurus, Leonites.
  2. Cyathium: It has a condensed axis with a single female flower at the center and surrounded by many single stamened, achlamydeous male flowers in scorpioid cymes. Female flower is achlamydeous with tricarpellary syncarpous gynoecium. This inflorescence looks like a flower. Ex: Euphorbia and Poinsettia.
  3. Hypanthodium: it is fruit like inflorescence with hollow fleshy ball like peduncle having an apical opening called ostiole plugged by scale like structure. Inner surface has monochlamydeous, sessile male flowers at the apex, sterile female flowers known as gall flowers in the middle and fertile female flowers at the base in irregular manner. Male flowers have three stamens each. Ex: Ficus species.
