The Ahoms were said to have accepted the Hindu religion, adopted the Assamese language and made their society sophisticated were true with respect to the cultural and religious beliefs of Ahoms. They did this by putting an end to Bhuiyan politics and creating a new state. Forced labour was the foundation of the Ahom state. Paiks were forced to work for the government. Their culture was organised around clans, also referred to as 'Khel'. One Khel includes many settlements. Though they acknowledged Hinduism and the Assamese language, the Ahoms honoured their own tribal gods rather than imposing their own language, religious beliefs, and ritualistic customs on Assamese society. The Ahom monarchs adopted Hinduism, although they kept their old religious practices. The society of Ahom was very advanced. Poets and academics received land grants, and theatre was promoted.
