The Rowlatt Act of 1919 was passed by the Imperial Legislative Council.
The Rowlatt Act aimed at giving enormous power to the government to repress political activists and to detain political prisoners without any trial for two years. The Rowlatt Acts were considered black acts by Gandhiji. Gandhiji formulated for Rowlatt Satyagraha against the Rowlatt act. He organised a nationwide hartal on April 6.
