Detailed Solution

The word jana or vish was used to describe a community of people during the Vedic age. For example, Purjana, Baratajana, Yadujana etc. A 'jana' (tribe) comprised of a group of 'vish' was connected by actual or supposed ties of kinship. One "jana" had a "gopa" as its leader. The janas united to form a "janapada," or "kingdom." The ruler of the janapada was known as the "rajan" or king. During the Rig Vedic era, there were a number of tribal kingdoms, including the Bharatas, Matsyas, Yadus, and Purus.
