Detailed Solution

The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated (impure) blood from the heart to the lungs where blood gets oxygenated and is returned back to the heart via the pulmonary vein.
The pulmonary artery is the vessel that carries deoxygenated (impure) blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs. The deoxygenated blood travels through the pulmonary artery and reaches the lungs, where it undergoes a process called gas exchange. During the gaseous exchange, carbon dioxide is removed from the blood, and oxygen is added to it. This process takes place in the small air sacs called alveoli in the lungs.
After the blood gets oxygenated in the lungs, it is carried back to the heart through the pulmonary vein. The pulmonary vein carries oxygenated (pure) blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart, where it mixes with the blood returning from the body's other tissues. The left ventricle then pumps this oxygenated blood out to the rest of the body through the aorta.
