Manas bio- reserve of India is not included in the world network of bio-reserves.
The world network of bio-reserves includes the protected areas that significantly influence the ecological balance between man and nature. There are 142 such bio-reserves across the world. Of the 18 biosphere reserves in India, 12 of them come under the world network of bio-reserves. This includes the Sundarbans (West Bengal), Nilgiri (Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu), Nanda Devi (Uttarakhand), Gulf of Mannar (Tamil Nadu), Great Nicobar (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Agasthyamalai (Kerala and Tamil Nadu), Simlipal (Odisha), Nokrek (Meghalaya), Achanakmar-Amarkantak(Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh), Khangchendzonga (Sikkim), Pachmarhi and Panna (Madhya Pradesh) biosphere reserves. Manas in Assam is a national park, biosphere, and tiger reserve.
