Detailed Solution

Methyl isocyanate chemical is responsible for Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
Methyl isocyanate is the gas that caused the Bhopal gas disaster. Methyl Isocyanate(MIC) is a colourless liquid that is used in the production of insecticides. When properly maintained, MIC is safe. However, when MIC is exposed to water, the compounds react with each other, resulting in a heat reaction. A dangerous methyl isocyanate gas leak at a Union Carbide plant. It occurred at a Union Carbide subsidiary pesticide plant in the Indian city of Bhopal. The plant spilt roughly 40 tonnes of poisonous methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas on December 2-3, 1984, exposing over 500,000 people to toxic chemicals. Around 2,000 people were murdered as a result of the gas spill.
