Detailed Solution

Surat is known as the emporium of western trade.
The emporium of western trade during the Mughal era was Surat in Gujarat, along with Cambay in Ahmedabad. Surat facilitated trade with West Asia via the Gulf of Ormuz. Because so many pilgrim ships depart from Surat, it is also known as the entrance to Mecca. West Asia, Africa, and Europe were marketed for the Surat textiles, which were noted for their gold lace borders (zari). During his journey to Surat in 1674, John Fryer discovered that the city was a hub for both Indian and foreign trade. Surat is referred to as the textile capital of the country or the Silk City of India due to its reputation for producing textiles, notably silk.
