Aristocracy was defined as the ruling class. Politically and socially, the landed aristocracy was the dominant class on the European continent. They were united by a common way of life that cut across territorial divisions. They had townhouses and states in the countryside. They spoke French for diplomacy in high society. Ties of marriage often linked the families of the aristocracy. Alternatives to aristocracy are oligarchy or mediocrity, a form of power in which power rests effectively with a small number of people. People differ in terms of their basic abilities and aptitudes, which are the core attitudes of the elite. The rule of the board in business would be the elite. A group of people selected based on their experience, knowledge, and skills to run a firm, not necessarily based on their income. In the case of a business oligarchy based entirely on money, the one who makes the most money will be chosen to rule over a firm and, to a large extent, society at large.
