Which component of food is absorbed in the large intestine?

Water is the primary component of food absorbed in the large intestine. By the time food reaches the large intestine, the small intestine has absorbed the majority of the nutrients and energy. 

The primary function of the large intestine is to reabsorb water and electrolytes from the remaining indigestible material and form faeces, which are then eliminated from the body via the rectum and anus. 

The large intestine also regulates waste material passage and ensures the proper elimination of waste products from the body.
