Detailed Solution

US, Germany, Japan gave good competition to Britain’s industries post-World War. British imports into India decreased as a result of the British mills' increased focus on producing goods for the war effort. All of a sudden, Indian mills had a sizable domestic market to serve. Manchester was never able to reclaim its former prominence in the Indian market after the war. Britain's economy collapsed after the war because it was unable to modernise and compete with the US, Germany, and Japan. British exports of cotton textiles declined precipitously as well as cotton production. Local industrialists in the colonies increasingly strengthened their position by displacing imported goods and gaining control of the domestic market.
