Fa-Hien belonged to China. He was a Buddhist pilgrim who came to India during the period of Chandragupta 2 of the Gupta Empire. He gave various accounts of Chandragupta II's period and ordinary people's lifestyles. He mentioned the plight of the untouchables, who were treated discriminately by the high and mighty people. He also says that these people were expected to live outside the city, and if they wanted to enter a town or a Marketplace, they had to strike a piece of wood so that others could avoid touching them. Banabhatta also provided features about ordinary people.
