About 12% of the country's total cultivated area is dedicated to the cultivation of various oil seeds. Groundnut, mustard, coconut, sesame (til), soybean, castor seeds, cotton seeds, linseed, and sunflower are the main oil seeds produced in India. The majority of them are used in cooking and are edible. About half of the main oilseeds produced in the nation are groundnuts, a Kharif crop.
