Detailed Solution

Prussia formed the Zollverein customs union to abolish tariff barriers.
Prussia led the unification of the German states in the nineteenth century. In 1834, the Zollverein economic union was founded, strengthening commercial interaction among German states. Each of the 39 German states had its currency, weights, and measures. As a result, when commodities had to be moved, they had to cross customs barriers and pay each state a 5% customs charge. In Zollverein, customs obstacles were eliminated, allowing for the free movement of products, people, and capital. It also decreased the number of currencies from thirty to two. It helped to shape German economic nationalism.
