Detailed Solution

Astigmatism is a defect of the eye that can be corrected by using a cylindrical lens.  In a person with an astigmatism defect, the Cornea is an egg-shaped structure with two different surfaces of different curvatures. The eye of a person is not able to focus the light correctly on the retina. Because of this, light enters the eye from different angles and focuses on two different points on the retina instead of one point. This defect is corrected by using the cylindrical lens. This lens changes the direction and pattern of the light entering the eyes.
