Detailed Solution

Wood's dispatch was sent to the Governor-General of India in 1854.
In 1854, the London Court of Directors of the East India Company dispatched an educational despatch to the Governor-General of India. It was known as Wood's Despatch because Charles Wood, the Company's President of the Board of Control, sent it out. It described the educational approach employed in India and restated the benefits of a European learning system over knowledge from the East. One of the beneficial uses listed by Despatch was economic utilisation. By introducing Indians to European culture, one might change their tastes and boost demand for British goods since Indians would start to appreciate and buy products created in Europe. Another claim in Wood's Despatch was that exposure to European culture would strengthen Indians' moral integrity.
