Detailed Solution

Shah Alam II was the Emperor who granted the Diwani of Bengal to the British. After the defeat in the Battle of Buxar War, Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II gave the East India Company the rights to Diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, which gave the latter the authority to collect land revenue. Following the grant of Diwani of Bengal to the Company, Bengal's Nawabs were reduced to puppets of the Company. From then on, Diwani became the primary source of revenue for the British.
