During the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930, people were asked not only to refuse cooperation with the British, as they had done in 1921-22 (during the Non-Cooperation) but also to break colonial laws.
Thousands of people disobeyed the salt ban in various parts of the nation, produced salt, and protested in front of government salt factories. As the movement gained momentum, liquor stores were picketed, and foreign clothing was burnt or thrown away. Village officials resigned, peasants refused to pay revenue and chowkidar taxes, and in many cases, forest dwellers broke the law by entering Reserved Forests to gather wood and graze animals.
