Detailed Solution

Mahmud of Ghazni plundered the Somnath Temple. One of the most well-known kings in Afghanistan was Mahmud of Ghazni. From 997 until 1030, he had absolute power over a vast area that included Iran, Central Asia, and the northwestern corner of the Indian subcontinent. It is thought that monarchs at the time used to construct enormous monuments, including temples, to display their wealth and luxury. When they used to attack each other's kingdoms, these temples also became targets. Mahmud of Ghazni was doing the same thing. He used to assault the northwest region nearly annually, and during one of these excursions, he ransacked and pillaged Gujarat's renowned Somnath Temple.
