Detailed Solution

Annakut coincides with Govardhan Puja, which takes place a day after Diwali. The two festivals are deeply connected through the legend of Lord Krishna lifting Mount Govardhan to protect the people of Gokul from torrential rains sent by Lord Indra. Instead of worshipping Indra, Krishna encouraged villagers to honor Govardhan Hill for providing food and shelter. Annakut, therefore, celebrates this event by offering a “mountain” of food symbolizing the hill. Together, Annakut and Govardhan Puja remind devotees of God’s protection, the importance of nature, and the triumph of devotion and humility over arrogance and pride.
